"Forty Six Thousand Two Hundred Seventy Three"
Maria Cruz
Galleria Duemila
November 7 - 30, 2009
The title refers to the number of coins Maria used to create her recent exhibit! The nature of Maria's work is a weaving together of unexpected earthly elements as well as the artist's driving thought. Incorporating something concrete, like coins, as well as the laborious process of putting them together, the work finds reflexivity in the act that is akin to the "hard word of extracting something from under the earth and discovering precious stone or coal."
Maria studied Fine Arts at the University of Santo Tomas but completed her degree in Visual Arts at the Sydney College of Arts. She pursued her post graduate studies at the Art Academy of Duesseldorf. Maria holds a Masters degree in Visual Arts from the University of Sydney. She is presently based in Berlin.
