My 5-year-old student Stella is making the background of sea and sky. Notice her restrain in doing horizontal strokes. Children her age wanted to let their brushes fly in all directions! ;-)
Now she has to draw her hilly landscape with trees and one structure in the distance . . .
The fun part is doing the trees using pointillist strokes using yellow over blue to make the greens of the trees vibrant. Then she has to paint the whole landscape using yellow over the still wet blue wash . . .
Of course my workshop is not complete if we do not share/talk about stuff: music, toys, friends . . . which keeps me updated on what children are into these days. ;-)
Painting workshops are fun, relaxing ways for children to learn and appreciate art, learn mathematical computations (spatial considerations in compositions are needed) and children learn discipline and restraint (to listen, to understand instructions, etc.) . . . which is quite a feat for the younger generation.
And here is Stella's work done in an hour:
I will handling the painting workshop at the Creative Kids studio this summer.
