This art exchange started in 2011 with Kat Sloma of kateyestudio who gathered artists from around the world to exchange their art printed on a 3.5' x 5" inches postcard to be sent by snail mail. That first swap gathered more than a thousand postcards, 170 artists from 13 countries!
My postcard was taken from a recycled card I made a few years back using pieces of objects from different cards which I then pasted on a hand-made notecard done by the sister of my friend, Agnes, who also helped me with paypal for the postage. Thank you so much, Ag!!!
From this original assemblage I enhanced the color and printed it on a 4 x 5.5 inches (the printer I got for this year only print on this size!) and this is the card I sent for the swap:
This mixed media card carry all the symbols of my place called Heaven and I wanted a piece of me sent to another creative soul in the hope that we can connect and share our art. I sent 6 copies of this card to Kat in Oregon by express mail since I was so delayed as usual :-(
And these are the postcards I received:
Clockwise from top left: Sherry Harmes from Alaska, Vicki Mlady from New Mexico, Donna Johnson, Kim Thompson-Steel, and Imelda Hinojosa from USA. Different artworks liberated and set free to different parts of the world! Amazing!
And the fun part is that there is an ongoing after-swap swap :-) that connected participants and bonded friendships and creative lives through Facebook.
And this is the extra card from Kat Sloma:
Kat sent everybody her own personal postcard. Thank you, Kat, for bringing us together all these years. You are right when you said "when you liberate your art you liberate your heart." Blog HOP starts now!
This year's swap brought 1,254 postcards from 209 artists in 10 countries!
