Painting Workshop

Inspired by Van Gogh's Sunflower painting these works were done by a 6 and a 7-year-old boys in an hour. Although the first session is a crucial  time to assess the student's ability to understand line and colors, it also provides the opportunity to make young children appreciate art. How the artist Van Gogh created his composition, etc. The painting techniques worked on the use of yellow on yellow and its monochrome, washes and thick impasto paints, balancing primary colors to achieve secondary blend (green leaves), shading techniques by blending the primary colors together and to achieve pictorial balance.

The second session worked on the opposite of day colors. Again, using Van Gogh's Starry Starry Night painting as an inspiration, the student have to initially create the dark blue background of landscapes and skies and how this background will allow the real objects (stars) to stand out. There was some apprehension over the use of lines to indicate movement and rhythm to the stars and the moon but the kids did it well!

I will be facilitating the Painting Workshop of the Creative Kids studio at The Learning Child in Ayala Alabang in August, 5-years-old and above, Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning at 2:30 PM. Limited slots only. Please call CK at 7710861 or text 0917-8725307.
