Line drawing is the basic elements in visual arts.
For my 10-year-old student I make her go through drawing and shading by using a pencil (6B) and teaching her how to control her strokes to create tonal values (shading) and apply the same using watercolor pencils on the apple. The idea is to do the whole drawing, shading, coloring and painting in one hour in one session with a child!
