The Science and Art of Research

Researching entails both scientific precision and creative imagination, both disciplined rigor and artful writing.
In this FREE seminar, participants learn how to integrate both science and art in the design, execution and presentation of research. It introduces participants to the specific structures of good research designs and papers while highlighting the use of imagination for crafting questions, determining variables, and writing effective prose. This seminar also discusses ways to address common challenges and pitfalls in doing research.

Facilitators:
Jose Eos Trinidad is Instructor at the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies and Coordinator for Research at the Ateneo de Manila Institute for the Science and Art of Learning and Teaching. He finished his Masters from The University of Chicago, where he won the Earl S. and Esther Johnson Prize for Best Thesis. His education research projects have been published in Education and Urban Society, International Journal of Children's Spirituality, and Leadership and Policy in Schools. He is the author of Researching Philippine Realities: A Guide to Qualitative, Quantitative, and Humanities Research (BlueBooks, 2018)
Dr. Nikki Briones-Carsi Cruz obtained her PhD in Southeast Asian Studies from the National University of Singapore under the supervision of acclaimed historian Reynaldo C. Ileto. Her dissertation on Moro-Moro Theater won the Wang Gung Wu Medal and Prize for Best Thesis in the Arts and Social Sciences. She is currently Assistant Professor at the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, and editor of Perspectives in the Arts and Humanities Asia, Journal of the School of Humanities of Ateneo de Manila University.
