"Ports of Call"
Solo Show by Phyllis Zaballero
The
Voyages of
Phyllis
Zaballero
Phyllis Zaballero’s 35th solo exhibition entitled “Ports of Call” opens at the Museum Space, Ayala Museum on October 2, 2008. For the first time, she is mounting a show not about one place but the many subjects and places that have been a part of her continuing voyage as an artist. The exhibit features paintings on canvas, paper, and canvas collage on canvas. It tells stories exquisitely woven from her experiences and memories of diverse places such as: Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Morocco, Lisbon, Paris, and Russia.
The sensibility of Phyllis Zaballero has been shaped by the numerous travels she embarked since she was a child. Leaving the Philippines at an early age, she journeyed the various capitals of the world to obtain her education and pursue her artistic calling. This exhibit is a celebration of her life’s memorable sojourns.
Her trademark window imagery is once more explored in this exhibit. Through her adept use of details, the paintings talk not just about the place but evokes a heightened feeling of being there. The places become secondary to the emotions imparted by the artworks.
The journey of Phyllis Zaballero as an artist is always evolving. From a monochromatic abstractionist at the beginning of her career, now she has embraced painting landscapes and figures using effervescent colors. Her many travels taught her to explore hues that she was not keen on exploring before.
Organised by Galleria Duemila, “Ports of Call” exhibit can be viewed from October 2- 16, 2008 at 2/F Glass Wing Museum Space, Ayala Museum, Greenbelt Park, Makati City. Museum Hours: Monday –Friday 9 am to 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 7 pm.
