Draw, Color, Paint, Cut, Paste, Decorate!
Time: One Hour
Materials: Paper, watercolor pencils, glitter glue, scissors (Note: Adults Must do the cutting or be on hand to supervise it for older children!), paintbrush, water, rags.
A fun workshop for kids. Teach a child to mentally divide her paper into two. Drawing is one of the best exercises for mathematics and aesthetics.
1. Draw a circle on one half of paper for the clock face and clock designs on the other half.
2. Finalize details and color the different shapes.
3. Then teach kids to use a darker color (instead of black) to create dimension (tonal values). Example: red for orange, blue for green, orange for yellow, etc.
4. Use a paintbrush and water to blend the colors.
And while the adults are cutting the shapes the kids can take a break (drink their juice, etc.) My students playfully sing and dance while "T'Lui" cut the shapes.
After the break, make the kids assemble their clock on dark colored board and paste them. Decorate as they wish!
